Take a virtual tour inside of the gorgeous Hamptons home of famous movie star, Gwyneth Paltrow. Not too long ago, the incredibly talented and gorgeous Gwyneth Paltrow opened her home to House & Garden Magazine, and we got a special peek inside the beautifully designed pad. House & Garden, sadly, has gone the way of so many other Magazines (Oh Domino Magazine, how we miss you…), and is no longer even available online. Luckily, though, Gwyneth Paltrow’s beautiful home in the Hamptons was photographed before the Magazine’s demise. During the summer of 2007, we began a media collaboration with our neighbor down the street, Fine Gardening magazine. Videographer Gary Junken visited the nursery and filmed everyday activities of interest to home gardeners. We raise certain crops in our catalogues from seed, and in this first video propagation manager Alyson Brown sows Miss Wilmott’s Ghost (reportedly named after a British gardener who sprinkled the seeds of Eryngium giganteum on the sly when she came to visit), and a Castor Bean (Ricinus ‘Carmencita Bright Red’). Years of practice allow Ms. Brown to distribute seeds evenly across a flat of seed-starting mix by hand. You’ll appreciate her tips on seed mixes, depth to plant, tamping, and covering, and always, always to use labels and dates.

David Peabody and his team at Peabody Architects design passive homes. He says the design of a passive house aims to reduce energy demand to its lowest possible level. Passive houses use no solar, geothermal or wind energy equipment. But they are extremely energy efficient.Mr. Peabody says passive houses cut heating and cooling costs by about ninety percent. But what sets his design apart from other “green homes” is that it looks like any other home.”That is the beauty of the passive house approach is that you don’t have to build in a particular way with any particular materials or to any particular style. That’s why in our case we decided to try to do something to prove that point to make something that was very traditionally American.”Peabody Architects says it is building the first passive home in the Washington, DC, area.
